Everyone’s on social media these days, from Facebook to Twitter and Myspace, it’s a great social convenience for those who are busy but need to stay in touch with their loved ones. But there is a fall back, these are all personal social profiles, and not one you might want prospective employers to be looking at.

LinkedIn is a great platform for businesses, employees and jobseekers to connect with like-minded people in similar or different industries. Job searching on LinkedIn might seem difficult for its normal users, but for employers looking for that perfect candidate, LinkedIn saves a lot of searching through CVs manually.

There are some interesting facts related to job postings on LinkedIn, nearly 77% of jobs listed are actually first posted on LinkedIn, which suggests it’s important to have a profile to make applying for a job simple and quick. Another eye opening statistic is the number of jobs that are posted on LinkedIn but never advertised anywhere else; a staggering 48%! This can only mean you’re missing out if you don’t have a LinkedIn profile. Getting with the times and even ahead of them will pay off big if you make the most of your LinkedIn profile.

Another reason why it’s important to have a profile is to demonstrate your network. Being linked to significant people of a certain industry could help you just that little bit more with your job application. It’s always good to know someone who’s on the same career path as you, you can always swap and share tips and information, and it’s simple to get in touch via the messaging system.

Be active on LinkedIn, join groups and enjoy entering discussions, you’ll never know what you could learn from someone else, you could even gain a mentor which in itself is hugely valuable. Update your skills and experience regularly, don’t worry about the two page rule when it comes to your profile, more is always good as they can quickly scroll through everything on your profile.

There are many people receiving job offers all the time through LinkedIn, so increase your chances by having all of the information ready.

The world of recruitment is fast changing, social media channels and places like LinkedIn are making it simpler for employers and people meet without having to travel great distances. LinkedIn can give you that important chance to show that you are available for work, so optimise your chances and get logged onto LinkedIn; you’ll never miss an opportunity. You never know too, an employer might just be on lookout for their perfect candidate, and you could be that one in a thousand.
