AI Interview Process: Do Employers Use AI To Assess Job Candidates?
Businesses have been using artificial intelligence (AI) in some shape or form for decades, but with ChatGPT changing the conversation... Read more...
If you want a job in sales, there are certain things you can do with your CV to make sure that you have a professional CV, and that it stands out from the crowd.

When CV writing, it is important to look at the keywords that are mentioned within the job description. Sales jobs have words that revolve around communication, customer service, products and targets. Find these key words and include them in your CV: it will show that you have read the job description carefully. You should also include action verbs. These are verbs that stand out to employers, such as ‘accomplished’, ‘devised’ and ‘managed’. The use of these instantly reflects you positively, showing that you have a diligent and enthusiastic attitude. Using the passive voice when CV writing should be avoided.
Skills that you should demonstrate within your professional CV include a good telephone manner, communication skills – written and verbal – listening, resilience and confidence. These can be demonstrated either by previous positions, or from hobbies, interests, and voluntary work. It doesn’t matter where you can demonstrate the skills from, so long as you can show that you possess them. Don’t just say that you have a certain skill: explain either where you’ve learnt it, or somewhere that you’ve used it. If you have figures to back up your claims of what you have sold, include them.
Avoid including irrelevant details; whilst it’s interesting that you played the violin for nine years, unless you’re applying for a sales position within the music industry, it’s not relevant. You only have a limited amount of space on your CV, so it is important to include as much relevant information as possible.
An important aspect of any CV writing is grammar. Spelling, punctuation and grammar should all be to a high standard. Your CV should look professional, and not be littered with errors or typos. If you are not sure on the spelling of something, look it up. Do not always trust autocorrect, as it does not always understand the anomalies of the English language. If you do not trust yourself to do this, use a CV writing service.
Make your CV stand out, but do not make it showy or over the top. It should look clean and well organised, not scruffy and cluttered. Colours should be kept to a minimum: employers should be drawn to your CV by its content, not its colours. The best CV format will highlight your biggest and most relevant achievements first. If you do not have a lot of work experience, put your education first. In the work experience section, include any examples of voluntary work or extracurricular activities that you have done while studying: Whether they were paid positions or not, you will have learnt skills that you can apply to future roles.
